Whether Ranch or Stadium ‘Silent Stan’ Loves the Turf

 by   Samantha Lewis

The name he goes by is Stan Kroenke, and although he’s widely known in the world of sports, it may come as a surprise to many that agriculture seems to be his deepest passion.

Being the owner of 740,000 acres, Kroenke strives to give the land and agricultural community as many benefits as his sports teams. stanIn fact, he actually got his start in real estate – heading for the open plains before ever heading for the turf that plays home to the St. Louis Rams.

Stan’s company runs cow-calf operations at both the Cedar Creek and PV Ranches in Montana, as well as Q Creek Land & Livestock which runs up to 12,000 yearlings on 550,000+ acres located in Wyoming. Let’s just say that between sports and his passion for land, Stan has a lot on his plate.

Being an All-American sports fanatic was in Stan’s blood from the very beginning of his life. He came into the world and received the name Enos Stanley, which stood for St. Louis Cardinal greats, Enos “Country” Slaughter and Stan “The Man” Musial. Right then, Stan should’ve known that American sports was going to be a draw for him for the rest of time.

Stan’s wife also comes from a business magnate background; Ann Walton Kroenke just happens to be the daughter of Wal-Mart cofounder Bud Walton.

Kroenke Sports Enterprises is all Stan’s, and the menu of ownership is long: The NFL’s St. Louis Rams is most definitely not the only team on the list. Kroenke Sports also owns NBA’s Denver Nuggets; Major League Soccer team, the Colorado Rapids; Colorado Mammoth of the National Lacrosse League, and the NHL’s Colorado Avalanche. He can even claim being the largest shareholder of Arsenal, which is an English football club.

With an estimated worth of 4.1 billion (Forbes) in 2012, Kroenke and his Sports Enterprises are doing quite well. Stan even got together and joined other heavily-laden wallets (Denver Broncos owner Pat Bowlen and former QB John Elway), to become part-owner of the Arena Football League’s Colorado Crush.

His list of sports teams, clubs, arenas – you name it in sports – is extensive and varied. But the most interesting part about Stan is the fact that this is no Jerry Jones we’re talking about. Lovingly titled ‘Silent Stan,’ Kroenke stays away from the press, never giving interviews. He’s basically a quiet man, never walking the sidelines to boast or scream at players. It seems that the core of Kroenke is much like the calm tranquility that his acreage provides.

stan 2Making massive news back in 2012, Stan purchased Montana’s historic Broken O Ranch. Broken O is 124,000 acres that’s home to one of the most expansive and versatile agricultural operations located in the Rocky Mountain West. Spread across three counties, the original owners took twenty-five years amassing this land and worked hard to make it into one of the most grand and highly-valued investments in the world.

Kroenke Ranches, with this purchase, is seen as the finest cattle and farming operations company in the United States, and ‘Silent Stan’ is using his quiet time to make sure that all his ranches do well while also building on the incredible legacy of Broken O.

From hunting to recreational amenities, Kroenke’s biggest area of interest for his land is agriculture. He is absolutely committed to improving the agricultural community, and because of his hard work he’s earned a solid reputation as a high-caliber individual.

Whether watching the QB throw the winning touchdown, or overseeing operations on a ranch, Stan Kroenke has certainly shown to the world that he is an All-American landowner.
