Tactacam Tough: Built to .50-cal Standards and to Take Anything You Can Stand

by Capt. Ted Lund

With the increasing popularity of point-of-view video recording of hunting and bow fishing, one thing has become apparent: not all POV cameras are equal.

Since its inception, outdoorsmen have had to endure broken mounts, cameras that switch off after turned on or after the shot, and hi-tech electronic components either skipping and blurring or literally disintegrating due to shock and vibration. But where other companies experienced adversity, Tactacam found an opportunity.

Zac Geith

The burgeoning company was founded by outdoorsmen with one focus in mind: designing and building POV cameras and mounts that are designed for whatever Mother Nature and the outdoor world might throw at them.

That starts with its sturdy, shockproof design that is perfect for handguns and shotguns up to .50-caliber.

“Most other cameras, the mounts and the cameras themselves can’t take the beating we give them out in the field,” says professional deer hunter Zac Geith.

He credits the Tactacam team’s knowledge of cutting-edge electronics along with their serious passion for and devotion to hunting and the outdoors as key to their success.

“The whole team at Tactacam are serious outdoorsmen, and they know what it takes,” says Geith, spends more than 150 days a year in the field shooting video — as well as deer and turkey — for Victory Outdoors.

That starts with designing and testing the Tactacam to withstand the forces associated with today’s modern .50-caliber sporting guns. It’s also designed to take the bumps and bruises associated with climbing in and out of hunting trucks, ATVs, tree stands and blinds.

While being designed around world-class optics and cutting edge electronic components, Tactacam is also resilient. Waterproof to 109 feet, it can take rain, sleet and snow; any of the severe weather challenges handed to today’s discriminating hunters.

Each Tactacam is built around state-of-the-art components, including a 12mp sensor that records true full HD 1080p at 30fps and 720p at 60fps. The camera also features best-in-class low-light recording — fantastic for hunters since most of our success comes during low-light periods. Footage is captured on MicroSD cards (not included) up to 64GB. Regardless of whether you use a MAC or PC computer, Tactacam is compatible and videos are downloaded via a standard USB 2.0 connection. Rechargeable Lithium-Polymer (Li-Po)  batteries provide up to 2 hours of recording time and additional batteries are available to provide for more recording time. Batteries may be recharged via the USB connection or with the included AC charger. Each Tactacam camera is covered by a 1-year Full warranty.
