Nothing, the film at Crocker Art Museum, Through October 1

Bay Area artist Tracey Snelling is known for her color photography and installation works. Both feature miniature, highly detailed sculptures of shabby motels, rundown apartments, and American roadside attractions. She has been increasingly using film to express her narratives.

Set in the sun-baked town of Twentynine Palms, Nothing tells the story of Jane, a young woman whose only escape from her dead-end job and empty relationship comes from role-playing the lives of strangers. Snelling experiments with the boundaries of art and narrative as the fictional Jane confronts her life.

After premiering at the 2012 San Francisco International Film Festival, Nothing has been featured at festivals and art centers from Utah to Venice, Italy.
