Helix Collective Live Laguna Art Museum, February 13

Date: February 13, 2014Helix Collective

Time: 7:00 – 8:00 pm

Free admission

The Los Angeles-based Helix Collective performs a high-energy, out-of-the-box mix of world, classical, and rock ‘n’ roll music. At home in nightclubs and on the concert stage, the ensemble “has a little something for everyone: those who like their classics straight up, with a contemporary edge to it, or with populist appeal” (Audiophile Audition). Called “accurate and energetic” by Fanfare magazine and praised for its “beyond-the-ordinary programming,” Helix Collective includes flute/piccolo, oboe/English horn, cello, piano, and percussion. The group works closely with composers to create new music that is fun, fascinating, and instantly loveable. Ensemble composer Phil Popham writes music that “any audience would love to hear” (American Record Guide).
.
This season Helix Collective is hosted by the Pacific Symphony, the West Michigan Symphony, the Tahoe Chamber Music Festival, and the Unexpected Film and Arts Festival, and serves as ensemble-in-residence of Classical Revolution: L.A. Recent engagements include the Hollywood Fringe Festival, the White Lake Chamber Music Festival, 21-Sounds Contemporary Music Series, and Classical Revolution chapters around the country.

Live! at the Museum is an ongoing series of early-evening concerts in the museum’s galleries, a feast of sight and sound. In presenting the series, Laguna Art Museum has partnered with Laguna Beach Live!, an organization cherished by music lovers for its work in bringing performances by top-level, professional musicians to the Laguna Beach community. Not only are the galleries an appropriately beautiful setting in which to experience great music, they also boast fine acoustics. The concerts take place the second Thursday of each month from 7:00 to 8:00 p.m.
