Crosman Air Guns: Leveling The Field

When it comes to a competitive activity the whole family can get involved with, it’s hard to beat a day of shooting; where factors such as size and strength can tip the scales in the wrong direction in common stick-and-ball sports, that’s just not the case in the shooting sports. For building confidence through healthy competition, today’s modern air guns are a perfect fit — although many people overlook them at first.

Fun for the whole family.

Fun for the whole family.

“Usually what happens is people are shopping for something for their son or daughter,” said Chip Hunnicutt, Marketing Manager for Crosman Corporation, which designs, manufactures and sells air rifles and ammunition out of their Bloomfield, New York headquarters. “Folks look to air guns as their child’s first gun, and it’s a great tool to introduce them to shooting.”

With an air gun, the shooter’s size and strength don’t play into their accuracy, according to Hunnicutt. “Your son or daughter and their grandparent are basically on even ground,” he said. “It’s not loud, so it’s not scaring or disturbing anyone. And there’s no recoil with an air gun.”

Hunnicutt said once other family members see how easy it is to shoot one of his company’s guns, they start to gravitate toward the sport themselves, even if they hadn’t planned on it.

“Next thing you know, mom’s picking it up,” laughed Hunnicutt, “and the neighbors might find out it’s not so scary after all,

so you can spend a day right there in the back yard with friends and family, teaching proper gun safety and having a great time.”

What’s more, once people get into things, they discover that today’s air guns are a far cry from that .177 BB gun they grew up with; in addition to those venerable pump actions, there are larger calibers now that are comparable to a .22 rimfire — including .22, .25, and even .357.

“You can do a lot more than just shooting small game,” said Hunnicutt. “With our bigger calibers you can go after much more — many states have approved air guns for larger game including mountain lion, white tail and mule deer, bighorn sheep, even hogs, depending upon the state.”

Advances in technology, such as found on Crosman’s guns utilizing their new Nitro Piston 2 break-barrel power plant, the innovative CBT clean-break trigger, or Crosman’s industry-leading pre-charged pneumatic power plants, mean guns like the Benjamin Trail and the newly-redesigned Marauder allow hunters to do more of what they love, no matter what time of year.

“It’s not only opening up new ways to go hunt animals you’ve always hunted, it’s also extended your hunting time,” said Hunnicutt. “You can hunt year-round with an air gun; if it’s furry and in season, we’ve got just the right air gun for it.”
